Gclinics: Improving health care by making genetic testing accessible
CEO Auindrila Das previously worked in genetic centers serving rural India, helping patients with congenital conditions such as thalassemia and autism.
Advances in genetics have helped us unlock important evolutionary secrets, from our near-extinction to how harmful bacteria that infect humans co-existed. agriculture. It has also shown promise for future human health, such as providing new ways to treat eye disease, finding new cancer treatments and even slowing aging.
However, genetic testing has a long way to go before it can become mainstream in healthcare. The global market for genetic testing was estimated at $8.84bn last year. Due to the growing interest in healthcare, this number is expected to reach $64bn by 2033.
Gclinics, an Irish startup founded by scientist and genetic engineer Auindrila Das, wants to facilitate this process of genetic testing. By working with healthcare professionals and medical laboratories, Gclinics aims to make genetic diagnosis easier.
How did it start?
With a background in genetic engineering in India, Das says he has always been driven by a “deep desire” to solve complex problems. He holds a master’s degree in molecular medicine from Trinity College Dublin. “After ten years of healthcare research and seeing the impact of genetic risks in my family, I was inspired to create Gclinics,” he says.
“My experience includes working with venture-backed start-up companies such as Sedana Medical and healthcare companies such as Abbott Laboratories, where I honed my skills in molecular diagnostics. hule, medical devices and health regulations.”
Das previously worked at genetic centers serving rural India, helping patients with congenital conditions such as thalassemia and autism. He has also collaborated on projects with the World Health Organization to bring diagnostic tools to market.
“These experiences deepened my understanding of the importance of equal access to genomic information and the need for preventive health care. With Gclinics, my vision is to democratize access to genomic services , enabling better informed health decisions and improved patient outcomes.”
The starting point is that genetic diseases – although many can be prevented with early diagnosis – cost the world economy hundreds of billions. According to Das, doctors are facing significant challenges in achieving early and accurate diagnoses due to the “severe shortage” of geneticists and the “segregation” of patient referrals and information systems.
“These obstacles not only delay important medical research but also lead to higher healthcare costs and poor patient outcomes. Our cloud-based SaaS solution accelerates genetic testing from age to of months, reducing healthcare costs and improving patient outcomes through seamless data management and expert analysis,” Das explains.
“Our platform captures patient health data and uses proprietary technology to generate actionable data in a comprehensive report. Physicians and testing laboratories use this report to create health care plans for patients. they see.”
How is it going?
Although Gclinics is led by Das, who is the CEO, the team was founded by a diverse group of experts, including programmers, geneticists, computational biologists, AI experts and healthcare professionals. all of which were part of his network. The startup was founded earlier this year and is headquartered in Dublin.
Das says Gclinics has started working with leading fertility clinics and consultants in Ireland as its medical partners. The startup has received support from Enterprise Ireland, NDRC and Dogpatch Labs. Last month, Gclinics received Enterprise Ireland’s first Seed Fund. Earlier this year, Das was a top six finalist in the Pitch Perfect Competition sponsored by the Local Business Office.
Recently Gclinics was one of the first three to be selected for a new partnership program in collaboration with the Fidelity Center for Applied Technology that will be established at Dogpatch Labs that will help them accelerate their “breakthrough” businesses. .
From a good start, Das is now focusing on raising investment to launch Gclinics product with EU and UAE customers, expanding collaboration with more clinics and expanding its team in AI, data science, medical genetics and comprehensive development. .
“By partnering with physicians, we aim to create a solid foundation that will not only strengthen our credibility and expertise but also position us to grow in the broader molecular diagnostics market by 2025. “Primary genomic solutions in many sectors of healthcare,” he said.
“Ireland has now established itself as a global hub where startups can successfully build, validate and scale their ideas, and I’m incredibly lucky to be a part of it.”
